about

Marketa Kolarova (1993), a Czech painter currently based in Manila, draws inspiration from a diverse array of cultures and mythologies. With a focus on capturing the essence of the female figure and emphasizing piercing eyes, her work evokes a sense of melancholy and mystery. In her exhibition "Iridescence," presented by Yidi Art (Hong Kong), Kolarova explores the universal symbolism of pearls found in legends worldwide. Through her vivid imagination and stylized mythical characters, she invites viewers to contemplate the extraordinary emerging from the mundane, symbolizing birth, divinity, beauty, and the enduring power of love. Alternating between narrative and fantasy, Kolarova encourages viewers to discover beauty and inspiration in life's simplest elements, transcending cultural boundaries and revealing hidden depths within existence. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, Kolarova has also undertaken residences in New York and Miami and was awarded the Prize of Art Critique for Young Painting 2022 in the Czech Republic.
